Someone posted this picture in a Facebook group this morning. I am a great admirer of Bonhoeffer. In the midst of indescribable suffering, he remained faithful to God's call and God's providence. This quote is powerful. Sometimes we need God to shed his light on us from the outside of our routine. Sometimes it is like we are in our prison cell of circumstance and it needs something or someone outside to remind us all will be well.
It can be a conversation, a reminder of a special friendship, even a church meeting that is positive and you come away from it feeling better (rare I know!) We started to put our Circuit Mission Policy together this afternoon and one of the group offered this as our mission together which we adopted: "To enjoy and spread the good news of God as seen in Jesus Christ." Enjoying it! What a fab sentence.
I have had a busy day today but the door of freedom has been opened from the outside for me.
Little children engaging with me in two assemblies
A reminder of a deep lovely friendship having someone to stay
A meeting where we did some theology and ecclesiology and enjoyed it! Wow!
Even a decent local preachers meeting which engaged with the future of worship here.
Who will open the door you need to be opened to help you see the light and divine optimism again? Sometimes it opens when you least expect it!
