The eighth day of Lent: Fellowship

It’s been a day of fellowship today with two groups meeting with me. This morning the folk at Kirkby Malzeard met for a new bi monthly coffee time and catch up in the lounge of the mechanics institute. It was good for us to catch up with each other and make some plans. We are enjoying having no building!

This afternoon the ecumenical Lent group in Boroughbridge met at the vicarage for a first session using the Diocese of Leeds material rhythm of life. We thought about times we have been in the wilderness and who brought us out of them. We thought about how we remain convinced we are still beloved in those times. Folk shared some deeply personal stuff and it was a privilege to listen to them.

Both groups today reminded me of the power of a good community that listens and supports all its members. Paul remember in 1 Corinthians reminds us that when one part of the body suffers we all suffer, and when one part of the body rejoices we all rejoice. There is something deeply special about belonging to a group that gets those times right.

On this eighth day of Lent, can we take time to celebrate those we are connected with, especially those who stand with us in the desert. Without those people we would be very very alone…
